SS Ton cricket bats are known for big, thick edges, a full profile and a lot of willow behind the ball. The range runs from the Grade 1 Reserve Edition down to Kashmir willow junior bats and tape-ball bats. This guide compares every SS Ton bat we stock at VKS, explains what changes as you move down the range, and helps you pick the right one for your game and budget.
SS Ton bats are made by Sareen Sports Industries, usually called SS. The company was founded in 1969 in Meerut, India, which is one of the biggest centres of cricket bat making in the world. TON is SS's main range of cricket bats, and international players such as Kumar Sangakkara, Jonny Bairstow and Shai Hope have used SS bats over the years.
Every adult SS Ton match bat follows the same basic recipe: a full profile, a mid to low sweet spot and what SS calls "massive concave TON edges", usually around 38 to 40mm thick. What changes as you go down the range is the grade and selection of the English willow, and the price.
These are the adult SS Ton bats we stock, from the top of the range down. Prices are VKS prices at the time of writing (October 2026) and can change, so check the product page for today's price.

Most of these come in short handle, in Light (2lb 7oz to 2lb 9oz) or Medium (2lb 10oz to 2lb 11oz) weights, with a factory-fitted toe guard. The Reserve, Gold, Players and Silver are also available as a long blade for taller players. Stock of each weight and size changes through the season.
The Reserve Edition is the best bat in the SS Ton range. It uses SS's top selection of Grade 1 English willow, air-dried and left unbleached, with a traditional full profile and massive concave edges. If you want the most ping and the best-looking willow SS makes, this is the bat.
Willow: Grade 1 English willow, best selection, unbleached
Edges: About 39 to 40mm, concave
Sweet spot: Mid to low, full profile
Sizes: Short handle (Light, Medium), long blade (Medium)
VKS price: £529.99 (RRP £750). Also available as a Laser Engraved Reserve Edition
Best for: high-level club and league players who play a lot of cricket and want the top bat in the range. Shop the SS Ton Reserve Edition
The Gold Edition shares the Reserve's shape: Grade 1 English willow, a full profile, a mid to low sweet spot and big concave edges. The difference is the willow selection. Reserve gets the pick of the clefts, so Gold blades can have fewer grains or a few more marks. On the field the Gold plays like a premium bat, and at around £170 less it is the sweet spot of the range for most club cricketers.
Willow: Grade 1 English willow, unbleached
Edges: About 38 to 40mm, concave
Sweet spot: Mid to low, full profile
Sizes: Short handle and long blade, Light and Medium
VKS price: £359.99 (RRP £500). Also available as a Laser Engraved Gold Edition

The Players Edition keeps the full profile and 39 to 40mm concave edges, but SS shapes it for a lighter pick-up. It uses hand-selected English willow a step below the Grade 1 bats. For a lot of players it is the best balance of size, feel and price in the range.

Edges: About 39 to 40mm, concave
Sweet spot: Mid to low, full profile
Sizes: Short handle and long blade, Light and Medium

The Silver Edition has a full profile with a pronounced spine, thick edges and minimal concaving, so it keeps more wood behind the edges than the bats above it. It uses hand-selected English willow and an oval handle. It is a solid, durable club bat at a mid-range price.

The Vertu is SS's Grade 2 English willow bat, hand-picked by SS for straight, evenly spaced grains. It has SS's newer shape with a wide play area, a clean face, massive concave edges of around 38 to 41mm and a round cane handle. It is a strong choice for a first adult English willow bat.
Willow: Grade 2 English willow, air-dried
Edges: About 38 to 41mm, concave
Profile: Newer SS shape with a wide play area
Sizes: Short handle, Light and Medium
VKS price: £199.99 (RRP £290)
Best for: players moving up from Kashmir willow, or anyone wanting English willow under £200. Shop the SS Ton Vertu
Butterfly willow is English willow with distinctive natural stains and markings. The marks are cosmetic, and this kind of willow tends to feel firmer and be more durable than clean willow, which is why it costs less. The SS Ton Butterfly Willow bat has a full profile, a pronounced spine and thick edges.
Willow: English willow with butterfly stains, unbleached
Edges: Thick
Sweet spot: Mid to low, pronounced spine
Sizes: Short handle, Light and Medium

Best for: players on a tight budget who want an English willow bat that will last. Shop the SS Ton Butterfly Willow bat
The Reserve, Gold and Players Editions, plus two of the junior bats, come in a Laser Engraved version. These bats have engraved detailing on the willow, and at VKS they cost the same as the standard version. The willow, shape and weights are the same, so it comes down to which look you prefer.
This is separate from Bat iD, the VKS personalisation service. Bat iD lets you laser engrave your name, initials, a nickname or a catchphrase on the back or side of any bat, from £25. You can add it on any SS Ton bat's product page.
SS makes junior versions of several Ton bats, from English willow bats for older juniors playing hard-ball cricket to a Kashmir willow bat for younger players.
| Bat | Willow | Sizes at VKS | VKS price |

For a junior who plays a lot of hard-ball cricket, the Silver or Gold Junior is a good step into English willow. For younger children, or a child just starting out, the Kashmir Reserve Junior is tougher and much cheaper. Our English vs Kashmir willow guide and junior cricket equipment guide explain the difference, and the VKS team can measure your child for the right size in store.

Weight matters as much as the model. Go for the Light band unless you are strong and already used to a heavier bat, because a bat that is too heavy slows your hands down. Our guide to choosing the right cricket bat covers size, weight and pick-up in more detail.
SS Ton is one of the most copied bat brands in the world, and fake SS bats are common on marketplaces and auction sites. Warning signs include a price that is far below RRP, stickers that peel or look printed rather than embossed, and a blade that feels very light or dead for its size. VKS is an approved SS Ton retailer, so every SS bat we sell comes straight from SS. Our guide to spotting fake cricket bats shows what to check before you buy.
Buying in store also means you can pick up several bats, feel the weight and pick-up, and choose the one that suits you. Our Ealing store has the SS Ton range on the racks.
SS Ton bats come with a factory finish, but every English willow bat still needs knocking in before it faces a hard leather ball. At VKS we oil the bat, give it about an hour on our knocking-in machine, then finish the edges and toe by hand. It costs £25 for bats bought from VKS. Read how VKS knocks in a cricket bat, or add knocking in to your order.
Which SS Ton bat is the best?
The Reserve Edition is the top of the SS Ton range. It uses SS's best selection of Grade 1 English willow and is the bat aimed at serious and high-level club players. The Gold Edition uses Grade 1 willow too and is the best value for most adult club cricketers.
What is the difference between the SS Ton Reserve Edition and Gold Edition?
Both are Grade 1 English willow with massive concave edges, a full profile and a mid to low sweet spot. The Reserve Edition gets the pick of the willow, so it usually has the best grains, the best looks and the most ping. The Gold Edition is around £170 cheaper at VKS and still plays like a premium bat.
Are SS Ton bats English willow?
All the adult SS Ton match bats at VKS (Reserve, Gold, Players, Silver, Vertu and Butterfly Willow) are English willow. The SS Ton Reserve Junior is Kashmir willow, and the tennis tape ball bat is made for soft balls only.
How much does an SS Ton bat weigh?
Adult SS Ton bats at VKS come in two weight bands: Light, 2lb 7oz to 2lb 9oz, and Medium, 2lb 10oz to 2lb 11oz. SS uses thick edges, so the bats look big but most players find the pick-up lighter than the dead weight suggests.
Do SS Ton bats need knocking in?
Yes. SS Ton bats come with a factory finish, but every English willow bat still needs knocking in before it faces a hard leather ball. VKS knocks in bats bought from us for £25.
What does Laser Engraved mean on an SS Ton bat?
The Laser Engraved models have engraved detailing on the bat itself and cost the same as the standard version. It is a different thing from Bat iD, the VKS laser engraving service that adds your name, initials or a nickname from £25.
Who makes SS Ton cricket bats?
SS Ton bats are made by Sareen Sports Industries (SS), founded in 1969 in Meerut, India. TON is SS's main cricket bat range.
