The Kookaburra Kahuna cricket bat in 6.4 Ultimate grade is an English willow bat for club players on a budget. Its Pro Shield face covers cosmetic marks and adds durability. It keeps the Kahuna 210/34 profile, with a high sweet spot about 200 to 210mm from the toe.
The 6.4 Ultimate grade uses English willow with heavy staining and cosmetic marks. Those marks would make it hard to sell as a natural bat. They do not affect how the bat plays. Kookaburra say it is perfectly possible to get an excellent driving bat from this grade.
In the hand, it feels like the higher Kahuna grades, with an oval handle and rounded edges. The Pro Shield face looks clean and grained, so the bat looks the part at the crease. At 2lb 8oz to 2lb 10oz, the pick up stays quick. Buying now gives you all winter to get it ready before the April start.
Kookaburra make every bat by hand from English willow grown in the UK. Each cleft is graded on performance, appearance, imperfections, colour and density. Blades in the 6.4 grade have significant staining and marks. Kookaburra cover the face with Pro Shield so players on a limited budget get a bat that looks good.
Pro Shield is a durable, lightweight anti-scuff material. The grain of a cricket bat is printed onto it. The back stays natural willow. The blade keeps a rounded edge profile, a 2mm rounded face and a standard toe. A 1 to 2mm scallop and a 10 to 12mm bow complete the classic Kahuna shape.
Be clear on what you are buying. The printed face hides the real grain, so you cannot judge the willow by eye. The trade-off is a lower price for the same English willow shape and spec.

This Kookaburra Kahuna cricket bat gives you full English willow and the Kahuna shape at an entry price. The profile, edges, spine and handle match the higher grades. Only the looks of the willow are traded away. Off the back foot, the ball still comes cleanly off the high middle.
It suits club players, second team cricketers and anyone wanting a reliable spare bat. If you want to see the real grain, the Kahuna 5.1 Legend has a natural face. If you need a Long Blade, choose the 5.1 Legend or the Hybrid 6.2 Ultra. You can also visit our London store in Ealing to compare weights before you buy.
What is a Pro Shield face?
Pro Shield is a durable, lightweight anti-scuff cover with a cricket bat grain printed on it. Kookaburra use it on blades with heavy staining or marks. It protects the face and lets you own a good looking bat on a budget.
Is the Kookaburra Kahuna cricket bat in 6.4 Ultimate grade real English willow?
Yes, the whole blade is English willow. The Pro Shield cover only hides cosmetic marks on the face. That is different from a hybrid, which uses a Kashmir willow back.
Does the staining affect performance?
No, Kookaburra say the marks in this grade have no impact on performance. They are the reason the face is covered, not a sign of weak willow. You can still get an excellent driving bat from the 6.4 grade.
Should I choose the 6.4 Ultimate or the Hybrid 6.2 Ultra?
Choose the 6.4 Ultimate if you want an all English willow blade at the lowest price. Choose the 6.2 Ultra if you want a Long Blade option or an Armourtec face. Both share the same Kahuna shape and weights in Short Handle.
Does the Kahuna 6.4 Ultimate need knocking in?
We recommend it, even though the bat arrives Kookaburra Pre-Prepared. Knocking in firms up the edges and toe so they cope with a hard ball. VKS offers a knocking-in service, priced at 25 pounds for bats bought from us.
Can taller players use this bat?
The 6.4 Ultimate comes in Short Handle only. Kookaburra's size guide places Short Handle players at about 175 to 182cm tall. Players taller than that should look at a Long Blade grade.
What weight should I pick?
Most adults are happy with a Kookaburra Kahuna cricket bat at 2lb 8oz or 2lb 9oz. A lighter bat gives faster hands, while a heavier one carries more mass into the ball. Pick the weight you can control easily through a full net session.
