The T20 World Cup 2024 was hosted by the United States and the West Indies from June 1 to 29, featuring 20 teams. The hosts automatically qualified, and England secured its spot by being among the top 8 teams in the previous tournament. The 20 teams were divided into 4 groups of 5, with England in Group B.
Each team played against those in the other three groups, totalling 40 matches. England’s first match against Scotland ended in a rainout. They then lost to Australia by 36 runs, despite Chris Jordan taking his 100th T20 wicket. England rebounded by chasing down 48 runs against Oman in just 3.1 overs and defeating Namibia by 41 runs in a rain-shortened 10-over match. Scotland’s loss to Australia ensured England’s advancement to the Super 8.
In the Super 8, two groups of four teams each played round-robin matches. The top two teams from each group moved on to the knockout stage. England won their first Super 8 match against the West Indies thanks to unbeaten performances by Phil Salt and Jonny Bairstow. They lost to South Africa but bounced back to defeat the USA, with captain Jos Buttler hitting five consecutive sixes and achieving the target in 9.4 overs. This victory secured England’s spot in the knockout stage.
England faced India in the semi-finals on June 27. Despite a strong effort, they were bowled out in 16.4 overs, ending their run in the T20 World Cup 2024.
